Capacity Evaluations: Preserving Dignity and Safety
Decisions regarding finances, medical treatment, or living situations are among the most significant a person will make. When there is uncertainty about an individual’s ability to make these decisions, I can help.
My approach:
Specific Assessment: I assess the individual’s understanding, appreciation, and reasoning regarding specific decision (e.g., medical consent, financial management, or living arrangements).
Dignity-First Philosophy: I prioritize the individual’s choice and wishes, working to identify the least restrictive ways to support them.
Clarity for Families: I provide clear, clinically supported findings that help families, attorneys, and care teams navigate difficult transitions with confidence and peace of mind.
Massachusetts Medical Certificate for Guardianship or Conservatorship form is provided upon request.
Cognitive Evaluations
When memory or thinking patterns change, it can be unsettling for both the individual and their family. My assessments can help you and your family understand what is typical age-related change, cognitive impairment, and if reversible factors–like depression, anxiety, medication side effects, or sleep disturbances–are affecting thinking abilities.
My approach:
- Health Review: I conduct a thorough review of medical conditions and current medications.
- Interview: I meet with the client and family members to understand everyone’s concerns.
- Assessment: I use standardized and validated assessments of thinking abilities and emotional well-being to determine strengths and weakness.
- Feedback: Each evaluation concludes with a comprehensive report containing findings and personalized recommendations.
